Healing hands – Essential Escapes, June 2012

Emma Barnett, founder of Essential Escapes magazine, experienced the magic touch of healer Paul Lennard. She shares her story here.

I'll never forget the day I walked into a Harley Street Clinic to meet with energy therapist Paul Lennard. I was all prepared with my list of interview questions and yet I didn't even get as far as taking the pen and paper out my bag. Paul wasn't interested in talking to me. He wanted to show me the gift that has turned him into one of the most sought-after healers in the country.

Paul got to work on my fully clothed body straight away, identifying immediately an area of extreme discomfort in my stomach – which I hadn't told him about. He explained that the pain was an indicator of an earlier emotional trauma , and traced it back to a specific and particularly difficult stage in my life.

I found myself expressing the feelings surrounding that event - and the more I spilled my emotions, the more the physical pain in my stomach eased until, eventually, it disappeared and I felt almost weightless in that area. (Little wonder that Paul has a long waiting list, until now achieved purely through word of mouth.)

He continued my treatment by identifying more areas of soreness, linking each to emotional events in my past that he regarded as bearing a relationship to the physical pain, and alleviating many of the symptoms.

At one point, Paul identified a skiiing accident injury from fifteen years ago – which happened during a very low period after my father died. In targeting the physical aspect, it felt as if he were helping my body release the emotional trauma too. The range of emotions I felt over the hour was extraordinary.

Oddly my upper body - which felt inextricably tense for most of the hour- long session - couldn't have felt more detached from my lower half. So much so that when Paul asked how my legs were, I barely felt them. I was surprised to even learn that he was holding my feet up.

Curiously he even managed to tune into private discussions I had been having with my husband about getting a dog – very specifically and correctly mentioning a Labrador. His use of such detail underlined his uncanny accuracy. More importantly, as he linked physical traumas with emotional ones, he helped to ease them.

I had gone to see him thinking that I had no physical or emotional demons to exorcise, and yet by the end of the session I was already booking my next appointment to continue my cleansing journey.  Paul undoubtedly has a gift , and one that is complemented by his skills in cranio sacral therapy and sports massage.  It's not just that it's a unique therapy. The point is that a few weeks on, I still feel as light and unburdened as I did when I left the clinic. Surely that's as good as it gets?
